ZATA Pharmaceuticals, Inc. was founded in 2008 by Dr. David Tabatadze and Dr.Paul Zamecnik. Dr. Tabatadze has MS in an organic chemistry and a Ph.D. in biochemistry. He has been associated for fifteen years with Dr. Zamecnik, and they have co-authored numerous publications and patents. Dr. Tabatadze’s expertise includes conception of potential therapeutic compounds, synthesis and scale-up of biologically active molecules, drug metabolism of human blood products, biochemical, biophysical and bioanalytical evaluation of potential therapeutic compounds. Dr. Zamecnik pioneered the in vitro synthesis of proteins, he was the co-discoverer of tRNA and is known as "the father of Antisense Chemistry”. Dr. Zamecnik received the Albert Lasker Lifetime Science Award, the Presidential Medal of Science, numerous other awards and honorary degrees. Dr. Zamecnik suddenly passed away and was buried on cemetery of Harvard University in November 2009.
